Getting Started with the Perpetuoso Career Companion

A step-by-step guide for new users.

About This Guide

What You Will Learn

  • How this walkthrough is structured and how to use it effectively

This guide walks you through every feature of the Perpetuoso Career Companion in the order you will use them. Follow the steps from beginning to end and you will be fully set up by the time you finish. Each step includes clear instructions plus context that explains why the step matters and how it connects to the bigger picture.

  1. Read each step in sequence the first time through.
  2. Complete the action in-product before moving to the next step.
  3. Use callouts as strategic guidance, not just extra reading.

Did You Know

Most job seekers lose track of their search not because they stop trying, but because the process is fragmented. Applications live in spreadsheets. Notes live in email. Strategy lives in your head. Perpetuoso was built to solve fragmentation, not just add another tool to the pile.

Step 1: Create Your Account

What You Will Learn

  • How to create a free account at perpetuoso.com
  • Where you land after signing up

Go to perpetuoso.com and click Sign Up Free. Create your account using your email address or Google sign-in. You will be taken directly to the Career Dashboard immediately after signing up.

  1. Go to perpetuoso.com in your browser.
  2. Click Sign Up Free.
  3. Create your account using your email address or Google sign-in.
  4. You will land on the Career Dashboard after signing up.

By the Way

No credit card is required. The free tier gives you full access to the Career Companion to get started.

Why This Matters

Your account is the container for everything Perpie learns about you. Every resume import, every application, every conversation is tied to your account and persists across sessions. This is what makes Perpetuoso different from a standard AI chat tool.

Step 2: Import Your Resume

What You Will Learn

  • How to give Perpie your career history
  • Why the resume import is the foundation of everything else

Before Perpie can help you, she needs to know who you are professionally. Importing your resume is how you establish your foundation in the system. Everything Perpie generates for you later, including tailored resumes and cover letters, is built from this foundation.

  1. On the Career Dashboard, click Import Resume or follow the resume import prompt.
  2. Upload your resume as a PDF or Word document, or paste your resume text directly into the field.
  3. Perpie will extract your work history, skills, education, and key accomplishments automatically.
  4. Wait for confirmation that your profile is ready before moving on.

Did You Know

Perpie calls your imported career history your Master Truth. It is the authoritative record of who you are professionally. Every resume she generates later starts from this record and is then tailored to the specific role you are applying to.

By the Way

Include all of your roles, even older ones. Perpie will not surface everything in every resume, but she needs the complete picture to make good decisions about what to emphasize for each role.

Watch Out

If your resume import is incomplete or missing key roles, Perpie will work from incomplete information. Take the time to review what she extracted and correct anything that is missing before moving forward.

Step 3: Complete Your Orientation

What You Will Learn

  • How to tell Perpie about your current situation and goals
  • What orientation unlocks in your experience

Your resume tells Perpie where you have been. Orientation tells her where you are going. This short conversation is how she learns your current situation, your strategic direction, and the types of roles you are targeting.

  1. Click the Perpie avatar in the bottom right corner of the dashboard to open the Perpie panel.
  2. Perpie will greet you and begin asking questions about your goals and current situation.
  3. Answer each question honestly and in your own words. The more context you give, the more relevant her guidance will be.
  4. Orientation is complete when Perpie confirms she has what she needs.

By the Way

Perpie asks one question at a time and waits for your answer before moving on. There is no rush. Think of this as a conversation with a career advisor, not a form to fill out.

Why This Matters

Orientation is the difference between an AI that knows your resume and an AI that knows your situation. After orientation, Perpie understands not just what you have done but what you are trying to do next. That context shapes everything she helps you with from this point forward.

Did You Know

After orientation, Perpie analyzes your full profile and may share an insight about your career background that you have not considered. This is her first real analysis of who you are professionally and it is worth reading carefully.

Step 4: Add Your First Application

What You Will Learn

  • How to add a job application to your dashboard
  • Which fields matter most and why
  • How to track where you found each role

The Career Dashboard is your command center. Every role you are considering, applying to, or actively pursuing lives here as a tracked application. Perpie can see every application and uses that information to give you increasingly specific guidance over time.

  1. Click Add Application on the dashboard.
  2. Enter the Company Name and Job Title.
  3. Set the Status. Use Applied if you have already submitted, or create the record before applying to use it as preparation space.
  4. Select the Source to record where you found the role. Options include LinkedIn, Indeed, Remote Rocketship, Builtin, Wellfound, and others. If none apply, select Other and type in the source.
  5. Enter the Date Applied.
  6. Paste the full text of the job description into the Job Description field.
  7. Click Save.

Why This Matters

Every application you add becomes part of Perpie's growing picture of your search. Over time, she can identify patterns: which role types are getting interviews, which sources are producing results, where your fit is strongest. That intelligence only compounds if your records are current.

Watch Out

The job description and source fields are both required before the Generate Resume with Perpie button appears. Paste the full posting text, not just the job title. Do not skip these fields.

By the Way

You can add applications before you apply to use Perpie for preparation. Add a role you are considering, run the fit analysis, and let Perpie help you decide whether it is worth pursuing before you invest time in an application.

Step 5: Generate Your Resume and Review Fit Analysis

What You Will Learn

  • How to trigger resume generation for a specific application
  • What fit analysis tells you about the role
  • The difference between the ATS and Formatted versions
  • How to download or copy your resume

Once your application is saved with a job description and source, the Generate Resume with Perpie button appears. Clicking it launches two things in sequence: a fit analysis that compares the role requirements to your career history, and then a tailored resume built from that analysis.

  1. On the application, click Generate Resume with Perpie.
  2. The fit analysis appears first. It shows you how well your background aligns with the role and where any gaps exist.
  3. Read the fit analysis carefully. The gap information is as valuable as the score itself.
  4. Your resume is then generated. This takes 20 to 40 seconds total.
  5. Your resume appears in the ATS tab. This version is plain text, optimized for applicant tracking systems.
  6. Click the Formatted tab to see a styled version suitable for sending directly to a hiring manager.
  7. Use Copy to copy the resume to your clipboard, or Download to save it as a file.

Did You Know

Fit analysis is not just a score. The summary tells you specifically which parts of your background map to the role requirements and which requirements you do not clearly satisfy. Perpie uses that analysis to decide what to emphasize in your resume.

Why This Matters

Most job seekers apply to roles without knowing how well they actually fit. Fit analysis gives you an honest read before you invest time in a full application. A high fit score means Perpie can build a strong resume. A low fit score is a signal to either address the gaps or redirect your energy elsewhere.

Did You Know

Most companies use applicant tracking systems to filter resumes before a human ever reads them. The ATS version of your resume is specifically designed to pass through those filters. The Formatted version is for direct human review. Use each one in the right context.

Why This Matters

A generic resume is a liability in a competitive search. Every role has a specific set of requirements and a specific vocabulary. A resume that speaks that vocabulary directly performs measurably better than one that does not. Perpie tailors every resume to the specific role rather than producing a one-size-fits-all document.

By the Way

Perpie saves your generated resume to your application record. If you come back later, the resume is already there. You do not need to regenerate it.

Step 6: Generate a Cover Letter

What You Will Learn

  • How to generate a cover letter for a specific application
  • What to expect from the output and how to use it

From the Resume page, you can generate a cover letter for the same application with one click. Like the resume, it is tailored to the specific role and company using your career history as the source.

  1. On the Resume page, click Generate Cover Letter.
  2. The cover letter will generate and appear in the Cover Letter tab.
  3. Read the letter carefully. It is written from your perspective and tailored to the role and company.
  4. Copy or download the cover letter.
  5. Click Back to Application to return to the dashboard.

Why This Matters

A cover letter is your first direct communication with a hiring manager. A generic letter signals low effort. A letter that references the specific role, reflects your genuine background, and speaks to the company needs signals that you did your homework. Perpie gives you that starting point without the blank page.

By the Way

Treat the cover letter as a strong first draft, not a final document. Read it carefully and adjust the tone or any specific details before sending. The structure and substance are solid. The final voice should be yours.

Step 7: Update Your Application Status

What You Will Learn

  • How to keep your application records current
  • Why status accuracy matters to Perpie over time

Your job search is not static. Roles move through stages. Applications get responses. Interviews get scheduled. Keeping your status current takes less than a minute per application and pays dividends in the quality of guidance Perpie can give you.

  1. From the dashboard, find the application you want to update.
  2. Click Edit on the application row.
  3. Change the Status to reflect where things stand: Applied, Interview, Offer, or Rejected.
  4. If you have an interview scheduled, add the Interview Date.
  5. Add Interview Notes to capture anything Perpie should know before you prepare.
  6. Click Save.

Why This Matters

Perpie uses your application statuses to build a picture of your search over time. Which role types are advancing to interviews. Which sources are producing results. Which applications have gone silent. That pattern intelligence is only available if your records are current. A dashboard full of stale Applied statuses tells Perpie nothing.

Did You Know

Once you mark an application as Interview and add a date, Perpie can shift into interview preparation mode for that role. She will draw on the job description and your career history to help you prepare for the specific questions and scenarios you are likely to face.

Step 8: Talk to Perpie

What You Will Learn

  • How to use Perpie as a conversational career advisor
  • What kinds of questions she is best equipped to answer

Perpie is not a resume generator with a chat interface attached. She is a conversational companion who has been built to help you think through your search, prepare for interviews, pressure-test your positioning, and make sense of what is happening across your applications. Open the Perpie panel by clicking the avatar in the bottom right corner of any page. Then ask her anything.

  1. Career strategy: What types of roles am I best positioned for right now? Based on what you know about me, where should I be focusing my search? What is the strongest version of my professional story?
  2. Application review: How does my background compare to the role I just added? What gaps should I address before applying to this type of role? Which of my applications looks most promising right now?
  3. Interview preparation: I have an interview next week at [company]. Help me prepare. What questions should I expect for a [job title] role? How should I talk about my experience at [previous company]?
  4. Resume and documents: Can you make my resume more focused on change management? The cover letter is too long. Can you tighten it? I want to reposition myself for AI-adjacent roles. What should change?

Why This Matters

The job search is not just a logistics problem. It is a thinking problem. You are making decisions about which roles to pursue, how to position yourself, and how to present your background under conditions of uncertainty and pressure. Perpie is built to be the thinking partner who holds your full context so you can focus on making better decisions.

Did You Know

Perpie remembers everything from your previous conversations. You do not need to re-explain your background, your goals, or your applications. Every session builds on the last one. The longer you use the Career Companion, the more valuable Perpie becomes.

By the Way

If Perpie says something that does not match your experience accurately, correct her directly. Say something like "That is not right, I was a Senior Manager not a Coordinator." She will store the correction permanently and never repeat the mistake.

Step 9: Return the Next Day

What You Will Learn

  • Why ongoing use is where the real value of the Career Companion is realized
  • What to expect when you come back after a break

The Career Companion is not a tool you use once and walk away from. It is designed for ongoing use across the life of your search. The value compounds. Every session adds context. Every correction sharpens Perpie's understanding of who you are and what you need.

  1. Close the browser and come back the next day or the next time something in your search changes.
  2. Log back in at perpetuoso.com.
  3. Open the Perpie panel.
  4. Pick up the conversation. Ask Perpie what she remembers, or just tell her what has happened since you were last here.

Why This Matters

Every other AI tool you have used starts fresh every time you open a new session. You re-explain your background. You re-establish context. You lose the thread of strategic decisions you made in previous sessions. Perpetuoso was built specifically to eliminate that cost. Perpie carries the thread forward. You never start from zero again.

Did You Know

Perpie's memory is not just a log of your conversations. It is a structured, searchable record of your career history, your strategic direction, your applications, and the decisions you have made together. That record is what allows Perpie to give you context-aware guidance session after session without you having to rebuild it each time.
